Dentures for Young Adults

Posted .

When we think of dentures, we generally think of older people. Most of us think that dentures won’t be a part of our lives until we hit our 50’s or 60’s. But accidents happen that may cause us to lose one or more of our teeth. Disease, certain medical conditions or oral hygiene issues can also lead to lost teeth.

Missing teeth will make someone feel uncomfortable and self-conscious at any age. Fortunately, you don’t have to live with an incomplete smile. Many people in their 30’s and 40’s are missing at least one or more of their teeth. Dentures will help you to speak and to eat, and will restore your self-confidence.

In some cases, the dentist may have to remove some or perhaps all of your teeth to fit you properly for dentures. Let’s be honest: the prospect of going out in public without some, or for that matter all of your teeth is not a pleasant one. However, your dentist can fit you with a set of immediate dentures the same day your teeth are extracted. You will need to come back to the office in a few months to have the dentures relined.

Another option that you may want to consider, especially if you are replacing the teeth in your lower jaw is implant-supported dentures. With this procedure, implants are placed in your jaw, and the dentures snap into place.

No matter which option you choose for dentures, there will be an adjustment period. Your new dentures will need to be cared for, just like your teeth. Dr. Eric Dunn at Willow Creek Family Dentistry will explain the process to you and tell you how to care for your dentures.

If you have gaps in your smile, contact us at Willow Creek Family Dentistry in Oxford, Ohio at 513-523-7541. We’ll be happy to schedule an appointment for you.
