Have You Heard of Implant-Supported Dentures?

Posted .

Today you don’t have to live with missing teeth in the long term. Dr. Eric Dunn and our team are happy to offer a variety of options to help you restore your smile, and we can provide implant-supported dentures if needed. While traditional dentures rest atop the gums, dentures with implants are actually anchored to the jawbone.

Implant-supported dentures replace an entire arch of teeth, and they are similar to regular dental implants in that a patient needs to have a dense enough jawbone in order to support the appliance. While placing conventional dentures is typically a straightforward procedure, we need to take X-rays and even a CT scan to place implant dentures. Because a few procedures are needed to place these dentures, our dentist can provide temporary dentures to maintain your smile in the meantime.

You can choose between two different styles of implant-supported dentures, which are bar- and ball-retained appliances. The bar-retained dentures have a thin piece of metal that follows your jaw curve and attaches implants to the jaw. The denture then snaps onto clips on this bar. Ball-retained dentures utilize a metal ball on the implant so that it can attach to the socket of the dentures.
